Shankar Sharma & Bharat Shah on Global and Indian Public Markets

Global and Indian Public Markets

Krunal Mehta, our moderator and successful entrepreneur, led the panel discussion at the first International Investor Summit in Abu Dhabi. It focused on the wealth and investor psychology in dealing with the global and Indian public markets for wealth creation. This blog outlines parts of the insightful discussion with our panel members, including the wealth creation strategies and stock market investment tips.

Introduction of our panel members: Shankar Sharma and Bharat Shah

The International Investors Summit brought together global investors and entrepreneurs for insightful discussions and meaningful networking. One of the most anticipated sessions was the panel on wealth, featuring esteemed speakers Mr. Bharat Shah and Mr. Shankar Sharma.

Bharat Shah

Bharat Shah is a phenomenal investor and the executive director of the ASK Group, a leading asset and wealth management company. His wealth creation strategies ensure returns and contribute significantly to the ASK Group’s exceptional performance. Bharat Shah shares deep insights into wealth growth strategies, sustainable investment approaches, and market trends. His expertise will give investors valuable perspectives on navigating today’s dynamic financial environment.

Shankar Sharma

As per Forbes, Shankar Sharma, or the Alchemist of Dalal Street, is one of the most successful market strategies and investors. He is the founder of GQuant Investec and First Global. His strategies and straightforward thinking have contributed to his being featured on Wall Street by CNBC, the Financial Times, and more. His profound insights into asset allocation, risk assessment, and financial growth make him a sought-after speaker.

Understanding investor psychology with our panel members

The equity investment guide includes many strategies and psychological factors one must consider. However, there are a few that help you make better decisions and navigate the dips in the investor journey. Bharat Shah and Shankar Sharma discussed a few such investor psychologies at the first International Investor Summit in Abu Dhabi by IVY Growth Associates as follows:

Markets are becoming more volatile; learn to filter out the chaos!

Our moderator, Mr. Mehta, started the panel discussion with the questions many investors ask, ‘How do we invest like a pro?’. Bharat Shah responded by explaining how the volatile nature of the market creates chaos of thoughts in the investor’s mind. He shares stock market investment tips like filtering out the chaotic noises before they reflect in your actions and focusing on the
fundamental investing principles. The markets create scenarios and booby traps for investors; it’s your responsibility to make well-thought decisions while keeping margin safety in mind.

Investing is a game of probability rather than fixed results.

When Shankar Sharma was asked about his views on the then-low market, he explained that he didn’t analyze the following possible changes in the market because it is a game of probability with multiple and unpredictable markets. He explains that over the 3+ decades in the investment market, he has realized that holding small shares in more businesses has provided him more benefits. He highlights how the unpredictability of the company’s growth trends in the first 1-3 years and the possible growth after a few years should be the center of investor psychology of investing in quality stocks.

Furthermore, he explains why he has invested in small and mid-cap stocks despite being volatile and high-risk. He highlights that despite the 11% fall in nifty, the small-cap stocks only witnessed a fall of 5%. The gains in the small and mid-cap outshines the losses, and one should consider investing in quality stocks in small and mid-cap markets.

Growth is the cake, and quality is the icing; you need both!

Growth, value, and quality work hand in hand and should be equally prioritized when making an investment decision, especially for long-term investing. Mr. Shah talks about how growth and value are considered two different measures but are two sides of the same coin. He also highlights how quality is paramount for the long-lasting success of the company and your investment at a reasonable price.

Keep learning and growing.

Both Bharat Shah and Shankar Sharma are avid readers. Both of them dedicate at least 2 hours to reading diverse topics to sharpen their knowledge, apply the principles at the right time, and learn new perspectives and strategies. One must avoid rigidity and adapt to new things and thought processes to evolve and grow, especially in the financial world.

Mr. Shah further supports this point by highlighting how intellect alone doesn’t suffice to survive in the investment world. He adds that learning from diverse sources, like reading varying topics, helps one understand the humility, wisdom, or character necessary to ace the investment game.

The pervasive growth of Indian Markets

The Indian stock markets have existed for decades but have witnessed tremendous growth in the past 1.5 decades. The growth has been pervasive, depending on the building blocks of the infrastructure and support necessary for the companies. Financial planning for investors in India must be based on the resilience, durability, and predictability of the sector’s growth. Digital and manufacturing enhancement has boosted innovative thinking and a surge in entrepreneurial spirits in India. Therefore, targeting growing countries like the UAE and India for long-term investing is smart.

The global markets and growth of gold investment

One of our attendees asked about the growth of gold investment and whether it has reached a saturation point. Mr. Sharma explained how gold prices have been on an upward trend and how the constricted market contributes to the higher demand for gold and its relative prices. Mr. Shah adds that the declining strength of the dollar regimen due to America’s external and internal conflicts will lead to more significant consequences as there is no other strong alternative to the dollar market. Thus, gold investment will be of great importance.
